Rita M. Gerber, 65, of Kersey passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her home following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.
She was born on January 27, 1959 in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Charles and Delores Gusmerotti Swanson.
On September 1, 1979, in St. Boniface Church, she married Robin Gerber, who survives. Together they shared more than 45 years of love, laughter, and marriage.
Rita was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, class of 1976. She was a devoted member of the St. Boniface Church, where she volunteered much of her time both at the school and the church. From Friday fish frys to the many school activities, Rita was a faithful volunteer that could be counted on to help anytime. Always a social butterfly, Rita greatly enjoyed the Elk County Fair, and volunteered her time for the many activities there, as well as serving as treasurer and board member for the Elk County Fair. Rita was also a proud Women's Club member.
With an unfailing love for her family, Rita could often be found baking and decorating, always delighting in decorating for Christmas. She also enjoyed bowling at the local bowling alleys, and enjoyed spending time with her friends while getting together for bowling leagues. Most of all, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of more than 45 years, Robin, she is survived by three children; Adam (Andrea) Gerber of Bartow, FL, Amy (Jeremy) Dorsey of St. Marys, and Ellen (Dan) Schatz, of Weedville and by her 7 beloved grandchildren; Jessica, Jake, Madelynn, Everett, Hayden, Hunter, and Beau.
She is also survived by a brother; Randy Swanson, of Kersey, two sisters; Linda (Joe) Bankovich of Kersey, and Lisa (Barry) LaRock, of Chemung, NY, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews and close friends.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her step-mother; Vondalee Swanson, and a sister-in-law; Carol Swanson.
