Susan M. Fernan

Susan M. Fernan, 77, of Ridgway, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 24, 1947, a daughter of the late Milfred and Betty Keneske Nelson.

On May 27, 1983, Susan married William J. Fernan of Ridgway, who survives. Together they shared over 41 years of marriage.

Susan was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and was a youth group leader at many of the area Lutheran churches. Susan completed college classes at Mansfield University and The Pennsylvania State University. She was employed at Keystone Carbon and later went on to work for her husband, Dr. William J. Fernan, at his practice as a secretary, receptionist, and psychometrician. She also worked as a child therapist for the Dickinson School Project.

Susan enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. She liked spending time at Curves and the YMCA, as well as watching and assisting at her husband's multisport races. More than anything she loved being able to spend time with her family.

In addition to her husband, She is survived by 2 sons; James (Tracy) Smith of Easton PA, and Josh (Missy) Smith of Blairsville PA, by a daughter; Rebecca (Glenn) Smith of West Virginia, and by a stepson; Ryan (Courtney) Fernan of Nashville TN. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Riley Fernan, Grady Fernan, Aaron Smith, and Christian Smith, and by a brother; James Nelson.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by a stepson; Robert Fernan, and by a sister; Sandra Knight.

A memorial service for Susan M. Fernan will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Krise Funeral Home, 130 Center Street, Ridgway Pa 15853.

Burial will take place in the Oakmont Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received at the Krise Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
